When is City Hall open?
The office hours are Monday - Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The phone number is 239-4764.

How do I access the Rubble Site?
The Rubble site is for citizens of Alexandria and is open from early spring until the fall depending on the weather.  City residents may bring out grass clippings, tree branches and white goods.  The rubble site is open on Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m and the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month from 9:00AM to noon .   It is located on the South/East side of the city just East of the Sports Complex.

What are the Library hours?
The hours are Mondays from 3:45 to 6:45 p.m., Wednesdays from 3:45 - 6:45 p.m. , and Saturdays from 9:00a.m. to 1:00 p.m.


City Services


When is garbage picked up?
It is picked up every Tuesday unless there is a holiday, then it will be picked up on Wednesday. Maximum cans are 2-45 gallon cans.  If you have more garbage than allowed please call the office to make arrangements to have it picked up at  an additional charge.

Does the City of Alexandria? have recycling?
Yes we do!  Addy Disposal will pick up the recyclables every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month.  Items included are: newspapers, magazines, & junk mail, plastic containers - #1 & #2, aluminum, steel and tin, also corrugated cardboard.  These items must be cleaned out and dry.  THEY DO NOT ACCEPT GLASS AT THIS TIME.  Please separate and set them away from the regular garbage.

When do we declare a snow emergency?
When there are over two (2) inches of snow.  All vehicles must be off the down town streets so that the plowing crew may get  the streets cleaned off.


Permits & Licenses


Where do I apply for a dog license?
Dog  & Cat licenses are now required by the City of Alexandria.  You may purchase these at City Hall and the cost is $5.00 for spayed or neutered and $7.50 if they are not, these are good for one year.

Are building permits needed?
Yes. The City of Alexandria is now in the process of requiring building permits.
